When Ben Affleck said “Marry Me” to Jennifer Lopez, he had a special message to accompany his proposal.
“This one he put ‘not.going.anywhere’ because that’s how he would sign his emails when we started talking again,” Lopez told Apple Music One’s Zane Lowe in 2022 about her second engagement. “Like, ‘Don’t worry, I’m not going anywhere.’”
The 55-year-old — who filed for divorce from Affleck, 52, on the anniversary of their second wedding ceremony on Tuesday — was given a massive sparkler.
Her ring, estimated to be worth “well over $5 million,” features an 8.5-carat radiant-cut green diamond set on a platinum band. Two half-moon accent diamonds sit on either side of the green gem.
“It was nothing fancy at all, but it was the most romantic thing I could’ve ever imagined … just a quiet Saturday night at home, two people promising to always be there for each other,” Lopez recalled about the proposal in her newsletter in 2022. “Green has always been my lucky color and now, for sure, it always will be.”
Following their engagement, the couple tied the knot in July at the Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas before saying “I do” for a second time at Affleck’s home in Riceboro, Georgia, the following month.
Meanwhile, Ben is no longer rocking his wedding band.
The actor was spotted heading into an office building in Los Angeles on Tuesday sans his shiny metal.
Lopez filed for divorce in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Tuesday without an attorney. The singer listed the date of separation as April 26, 2024.
Lopez waived the right to spousal support and asked the judge to deny Affleck support.
Although the singer allegedly didn’t reveal if she and Affleck had a prenuptial agreement in place, sources tell TMZ that they did not. If so, everything the exes made from their almost two-year marriage would be considered community property.
Affleck shares three kids, Violet, 18, Seraphina, 15, and Samuel, 12, with ex-wife Jennifer Garner, 52, who he split from after 10 years of marriage in 2015.
Meanwhile, Lopez has 16-year-old twins Emme and Max with ex-husband Marc Anthony.
Their blended family has continued to attend limited family events together, including Lopez spending time with Violet in the Hamptons earlier this summer.
But as fans may remember, this wasn’t the first time the pair tried to make a romance work. Affleck and Lopez started dating in 2002 and announced their breakup in 2004. Both stars ended up marrying and having kids with other people but ultimately rekindled their flame in 2021.
After calling off her first engagement, Lopez revealed she felt like she “was going to die” and went into an 18-year “spiral.”
When Affleck first popped the question, he did it with a 6.1-carat pink diamond by Harry Winston that was reportedly worth $2.5 million.
The “Atlas” actress and “Air” director were set to marry in September 2003 but called off the wedding. Four months later, they revealed their split.
A rep for Lopez shared at the time: “I am confirming the reports that Jennifer Lopez has ended her engagement to Ben Affleck. At this difficult time, we ask that you respect her privacy.”
During her 2022 interview with Lowe, Lopez reflected on the end of their first relationship and the beginning of their new one.
“Twenty years ago, I fell in love with the love of my life. I was working on an album and it was called ‘This Is Me … Then.’ It was all about capturing that moment in time. Now, the most amazing, incredible, unbelievable thing has happened,” she gushed. “The reason we’re here is because I want to capture this moment in time because it is even better than the first time.”
