Fans of the “Today” Show were taken aback when co-host Savannah Guthrie was conspicuously missing this morning. Craig Melvin took over for Guthrie on the program, although co-host Hoda Kotb gave a brief explanation for her absence. And Guthrie, where was he?
It turns out that Guthrie was traveling with her most recent book, “Mostly What God Does: Reflections on Seeking and Finding His Love Everywhere,” on a book tour. When she made a stop in Texas just the day before, former First Lady Laura Bush and President George W. Bush came to support her. What a great way to kick off a book tour, huh?
Fans of “Today” Show, meanwhile, weren’t very excited about Guthrie’s book tour. The reason for their discontent was an interview that aired on Thursday, just before she left on her trip. Kelly Rowland, an actress and singer, was interviewed by Guthrie about her new Netflix movie, “Mea Cupla.” It was more than simply the film, though.
During the conversation, Rowland’s close friend and fellow member of Destiny’s Child, Beyoncé, was mentioned by Guthrie as another famous person. Supporters said that questioning Rowland about her buddy in an interview about her own work was impolite. “Very disrespectful to ask… [Rowland] about Beyoncé every freaking time she comes on your show,” posted a fan on social media.
