Every morning without fail, an 80-year-old man dutifully brings breakfast to his wife in the nursing home. When questioned about why his wife resides in the retirement home, he simply and poignantly responded, “She has Alzheimer’s disease.”
Upon being asked whether his wife would fret if he didn’t bring breakfast one day, the elderly man responded calmly, “She doesn’t remember. She doesn’t even know who I am. She hasn’t recognized me for five years.”
Taken aback, a nurse inquired further, “Why do you continue to bring her breakfast every morning, knowing she doesn’t recognize you?” With a gentle smile and a sincere gaze, the man replied, “She may not know who I am, but I know who she is.”
